This ancient country house enjoys a wonderful panoramic position in the hills a few kilometers south of Monforte d'Alba, with undisturbed views over the village and the French Alps to the west. Historic Monforte d'Alba is in the heart of the Barolo section of the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont UNESCO World Heritage site, which in recent years has become a center of pilgrimage for wine enthusiasts from all over the world.
The village is home to excellent shops, various restaurants and a weekly market, while the larger town of Alba, well-known for its annual truffle festival, is about 15 minute drive from the house. The international airports of Turin, Genoa and Milan can be reached within 60 to 90 minutes.
The south-facing former wine-farmhouse dates from the late 19th century: extensively and sensitively renovated and extended by the present owners, it now offers generous accommodation in a number of potential configurations. There is a spacious apartment with its own private entrance on the first floor, connected to the main living area via an internal door: it could easily be used as a vacation rental unit.
The ground floor includes a very large, cozy kitchen - with an open fireplace and double doors to the south-facing terrace in front of the house - two smaller living rooms, a bathroom, an entrance hall with stairs to the first floor, and a large storage room at the rear of the house.
On the side of the house, the large garage has plenty of storage space and internal access to the main living area. From the entrance hall, a staircase leads down to an ancient underground wine cellar that maintains a constant temperatures all year round.
The original 19th century stone staircase leads from the entrance hall to the first floor, where there are two west-facing double bedrooms with magnificent views over vineyards to the French Alps beyond. Both bedrooms have access to a long shared balcony and a shared bathroom.
A door connects the private area on the first floor to the guest apartment: this door can unlocked if the apartment is used privately, or locked if the apartment is used commercially, in which case guests can use the outdoor staircase beside the house.
The former hayloft is now a spacious apartment with an impressive beamed ceiling. The main reception room is divided into a living-dining area and a well-equipped kitchen area, with access to two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a large covered loggia that provides an outdoor living space for summer use.
The loggia is located above the garage: an external staircase leads from the here down to the garden.

The low-maintenance garden in front of the house comprises mainly a meadow, with various fruit trees. To the west side of the house there is a sun terrace with a 6.5 x 3.5 meter swimming pool and great views. The remaining land is a 2000 m² field that is currently managed by a neighboring farmer.
Our personal opinion: this is a beautiful antique farmhouse in a top location, offering very flexible accommodation.
